Swynford Manor Wedding

The beautiful winter Swynford Manor Wedding of Angela and Jamie, set in the stunning surroundings of the Swynford Manor Wedding Venue in the Cambridgeshire countryside near Newmarket.

My normal course of action is to meet with clients a couple times in the build-up to a wedding, once during the initial consultation and usually a couple weeks ahead of the big day. In relative terms, this was a late booking and we didn’t really have the time to get a meeting in place. I’d only spoken with Angela and Jamie over the phone on a couple occasions but instantly knew they had it all covered.

A black tie and ball gown wedding with Basil cocktails, fighting gladiator pugil sticks and one hell of a dancefloor, how could this wedding not be fun?

Swynford Manor Wedding

Boasting a heady combination of romance and glamour, Swynford Manor is a delightfully different, exclusive use wedding venue in Cambridgeshire.

Situated within easy reach of the city of Cambridge and the market town of Newmarket, this classic country house wedding venue dates back to the early 18th century. Once the home of Lord Byron’s half-sister, Augusta Leigh, the house has a rich history and a very distinctive style.

We started the glorious November day with the ever enjoyable bridal and groom preparation. It’s always an advantage when the couple are getting ready in the same venue as I love being able to quickly move from Bride to Groom to see how their mornings are unfolding. I must thank the videographer for the day, David at Rideout Films, who had recommended me to Angela and James. His work is truly stunning and I had a great time working alongside him again.

A beautiful ceremony followed in the Swynford Manor Study before the guests moved into the breathtaking Garden Room for the wedding breakfast and even festivities.

We also managed to fit in a short outdoor session with the couple and the images are certainly some of my favourite of the year. Thanks once again to David (Rideout) for standing in the tree and shaking the leaves off, greatly appreciated.

I wish Angela and James all the best in the future, they are a great couple who deserve nothing but the best in their future together.

Here’s the story of their day…

Bindiya & Al-Karim / Braxted Park

Braxted Park Indian Wedding

The stunningly vibrant and brilliant Braxted Park Indian Wedding of Bindiya and Al-Karim in October 2018. Set in the beautiful rural Essex countryside of Great Braxted at one of Essex's most famous wedding venues Braxted Park.

I first met Bindiya and Al-Karim at the Braxted Park Open Day as they stopped and chatted with me at my stand. We followed up with another meeting in early March in London and as Bindiya and Al had a brilliant wedding planned even at this stage, I knew it would be one I would look forward to. A Braxted Park Indian Wedding really is a spectacular occasion with vibrant colour and traditions throughout the day.

Bindiya and Al decided upon Braxted Park as soon as they saw what site has to offer. They had a very specific wedding in mind with lots of modern takes entwined with the more traditional aspects a Braxted Park Indian Wedding would bring.

The Ganesh Puja

The Ganesh Puja is when the bride and her family ask for the wedding to go without obstacles to Lord Ganesh. During this ceremony, offerings are made to Ganesh and a variety of mantras are spoken by the Priest, parents of the bride, and the bride herself.

The Wedding Ceremony

Hindu weddings take place under a canopy known as a Mandap. Each of the four pillars of the bridal canopy represents one of the four parents. If an outdoor wedding is not possible, a Mandap is built inside. Seating under it can be on the ground or on chairs.

A typical Indian ceremony includes a priest, a fire, and a Mandap. Front and centre under the Mandap is the sacred fire. The fire can be small and can be confined to a brazier or dish for safety. Agni, the god of fire, is said to be the sustainer of life, and thus gives life to the marriage.

The day started with Jack (My 2nd Shooter) shadowing the boy's preparation in Colchester whilst I was with Bindiya and the girls for her bridal preparation and Ganesh Puja ceremony. The wedding ceremony then followed shortly afterwards before a day of fun fuelled celebrations and food aplenty! We managed to get two, yes TWO separate portrait sessions due to the early start which gave two completely different styles and portrait opportunities. They really are some of my favourite Bride and Groom portrait sessions of the year. I also had the pleasure of shooting alongside one of my favourite videographers, David, from the brilliant Rideout Films and look forward to seeing his film soon.

Bindiya and Al-Karim really are a great couple and one I really connected with. They're brilliant fun and nothing was too much trouble, despite the near 300 guests who each wanted their own 5 minutes with them. I wish them the very best in the future and all the luck in the world.

Braxted Park Greek Wedding

Braxted Park Greek Wedding

A truly stunning Braxted Park Greek Wedding set in the beautiful grounds of Braxted Park, Essex. This was the first time I’d been lucky enough to cover a Greek wedding and my word how I hope there’s many more to come. There was such a friendly atmosphere throughout with family members and friends coming from all over the world to join Zoe & Adam on their big day. This was such a fun wedding, full of interesting guests and ideas. My job is made so much easier when this is the case.

Music was so prominent on the day, starting at Zoe’s traditional Stolisma in the morning right through to late evening. Music was provided by Nostalgia

Zoe & Adam were such a good couple to work with, genuinely good people and they made my job of covering their big day such an enjoyable one. I wish them every success in the future.

It was also a pleasure to work alongside the videographer Philip Smith – A wonderfully talented man whose eye for details and professional etiquette was the best I’d seen in my time in this job.I hope I have the pleasure of working alongside him many more times in the future. If you have a few spare moments please watch his wonderful video (below) of Zoe & Adam’s beautiful day.

I am honoured to now be Braxted Park’s recommended Wedding Photographer.

Rosie & Paul / Barnston Lodge

Barnston Lodge Wedding

The wonderfully brilliant Barnston Lodge Wedding of Rosie and Paul in September 2018 at Barnston Lodge, a stunning wedding venue set in the rural Essex countryside.

This was my first time at the much talked about Barnston Lodge Wedding Venue and I could instantly see what all the fuss is about. This beautiful Georgian Country house, located in the rural heart of Essex.

I first met Rosie whilst shooting her sisters' wedding in 2017 (Rachelle & Adrian). There's no better recommendation than first-hand experience so shortly after I delivered Rachel & Adrian's final gallery, Rosie and Paul got in touch. We met up shortly afterwards at Rosie and Paul's local pub, (Fish & Eels, Hoddesdon) and instantly clicked.

Rosie and Paul are a brilliant couple with strong ideas on how and why to do things. Their wedding was a real reflection of their true personalities and something I always advise my clients to be strong on. Have the wedding the way YOU want it. Their joint passion for music and travel was at the heart of the wedding day. The reception marquee decor one of the most incredible rooms I've ever seen. Hats off to Made You Look Florists for that. Truly amazing! The evening was topped off with an energetic live performance from the groom himself. Paul, a talented musician and singer, had never sung in front of Rosie so this was a real surprise to everyone.

I'm truly thankful to Rosie and Paul for allowing me to document their big day and it was brilliant to have caught up with Rachelle, Adrian and the family again. It's lovely to see familiar faces year after year. I wish them all the best in the future and beyond.

Here's the story of their day.

Isle of Wight Wedding

Natasha & Rhys / Isle of Wight

Isle of Wight Wedding

The stunning summer Isle of Wight Wedding of Natasha and Rhys at the beautiful Landguard Manor house in Shanklin on the Isle of Wight.

We started the bright, summer September day with Natasha and her bridal party. It was a lovely quiet preparation with Natasha, her sister, who had travelled all the way over from Canada and her mum.

A beautifully intimate church wedding followed at the All Saints Church in Ryde. A magnificent landmark church, sometimes referred to as the “cathedral” of the Island.

Summer weddings are a lot more flexible with timings due to the extended hours of light and we used this our advantage with a relaxed couple session as we arrived at the brilliant Landguard manor wedding venue.

One of my favourites shots from the session is above in the header. A natural, romantic portrait of Natasha and Rhys as they shared a moment together with the sun peaking through. A combination of luck and being in the right place at the right time.

A Summertime Isle of Wight Wedding

Landguard Manor is located in a 4.5 acres area of quiet and tranquil surroundings, making the ideal venue for a wedding in the Isle of Wight region, all enhanced by superb facilities, outstanding services and delicious food that will impress you and your guests.

isle of wight wedding photography landguard manor

Natasha & Rhys decided against a more 'formal' wedding reception with a sit down meal and table plan, and instead opted for a buffet style meal. I must say this was a lovely alternative and fit with the couples vision and feel of the day.

The wedding festivities continued in the warm September evening with everyone enjoying the entertainment and drinks late into the night.

I would like to wish Natasha and Rhys all the very best in the future. There were a few serious obstacles to overcome in the build up to the wedding involving the dress and church but Natasha and Rhys still pulled off the wedding they dreamed of. They are truly one of the nicest couples I've met over the last few years and deserve all the luck in the world.

Grace & Chip / Granary Barns

Granary Barns Wedding

The beautiful summer Granary Barns Wedding of Grace and Chip, set in the stunning grounds of the Granary Estate wedding venue on the Cambridgeshire Suffolk border in Newmarket.

It's very rare for me to accept a wedding booking without meeting the clients in person beforehand but within 10 seconds of speaking with Grace and Chip over Skype I knew we'd be fine.

Grace and Chip are truly lovely people and a great couple. Their undoubted love for each other shines through everything else. I felt honoured that they entrusted me to capture and document their big day. Naturally, I’m also delighted that they were so happy with the images I delivered.

Granary Barns Wedding

Found in the charming village of Woodditton just outside Newmarket, stands The Granary Barns. From the classic flint walls on its approach, the original timber beams on display throughout, to the picturesque cornfields surrounding the grounds, the 18th century Granary Barn is the perfect setting for a relaxed and intimate wedding day.

We started the day with Jack (2nd Shooter) covering the groom preparation whilst I was with girls for the Bridal festivities. I was also lucky enough to be joined by the brilliantly talented Philip Smith Visuals on videography duty.

A fun filled day full of celebrations, emotional speeches and lots of happy faces followed, culminating in a party to end all parties! As you'll see in the images below, these wedding guests knew how to party! This Granary Barns Wedding was the one you wanted to be at.

I wish Grace and Chip all the best in the future. Listening to their stories, theirs is a true love story from the start and it’s clear that their future will be a happy one.

cambridge orchard wedding

Fiona & Oliver / Cambridge Orchard

Cambridge Orchard Wedding

The stunningly brilliant Cambridge orchard wedding of Fiona & Oliver in July 2018 at Turnpike Orchard in Barton, Cambridgeshire.

This was my first ever Cambridge orchard wedding and how enjoyable it was. The Cambridge orchard wedding venue at Turnpike Orchard in Barton, Cambridge really is a hidden gem in the rural Cambridgeshire countryside. This family-owned, private venue is so exclusive that this is only the 3rd wedding they’ve ever hosted!

Fiona and Oliver decided upon using the orchard venue as soon as they saw what site has to offer. Having lived locally they knew exactly what the area brought and used this local knowledge to ensure their dream wedding was made into a reality.

Their joint passion for travel and Fiona’s lifelong dance background was at the heart of the wedding day, topped off with an energetic and captivating performance from party band Groovetube later in the evening. Preceding this was a live performance by the incredibly talented Cambridge University Ceilidh Band

The Ceilidh is a traditional Scottish or Irish social gathering. In its most basic form, it simply means a social visit. In contemporary usage, it usually involves playing Gaelic folk music and dancing, either at a house party or a larger concert at a social hall or other community gathering place.

It was very gratifying to have been given the opportunity to document a wedding as special as this. From the moment I received the enquiry, I found Fiona and Oliver’s plans both intriguing and exciting, and it was great to see how precisely they kept to their vision. They really pulled it off and I’m delighted to be able to share a selection of their images here.

I wish this joyful couple, Fiona & Oliver, all the best in the future.

Browning Bros wedding photographer

Jenny & Callum / Browning Bros

Browning Bros Wedding

The brilliant Browning Bros Wedding of Jenny and Callum in July 2018 at Chalkney Water Meadows.

This was my first Browning Bros wedding and what a day it was. The Browning Bros Wedding Venue at Chalkney Water Meadows really is a hidden gem in the rural Wakes Colne countryside with a beautiful lake at the heart of everything. The venue only holds around 15 weddings a year, giving it an extra fission of excitement. With its idyllic, endless green surroundings and the fun twist of on-site glamping, this really does feel like a true festival wedding.

Jenny and Callum decided upon using the Browning Bros Wedding venue as soon as they saw what site has to offer. They had a very specific wedding in mind and they managed to truly realise it with their choice of partnership. Music was at the heart of the wedding day with live performances during and after the ceremony, followed by an eclectic mix of sounds chosen by the couple later in the evening. I must thank Callum and Jenny for introducing me to a track by Lee Dorsey called Give it Up. (trust me it's amazing, look it up!)

Browning Bros Wedding Photography

I must thank the wonderful staff at Browning Bros, in particular, Nat, Archie and Helen who ensured the day ran smoothly from moment to moment. They have a real talent for making the hard work they do look effortless. I know both Jenny and Callum were absolutely delighted with how the entire day went.

Additional big thanks to the brilliant Nicola from Bespoke Celebrant Ceremonies who conducted the brief ceremony in the warm and contemporary way that she's made her own.

Testimonial:

"We cannot thank Matt enough for our photos, he has captured our day perfectly. We really cared about picking the right photographer as you spend so much time with them on the day and Matt made us feel at ease and he slots in perfectly. So many people commented on how great he was and we truly couldn't be happier with the service he provides. The photos truly are fantastic. Thank you so much"

Paschoe House Wedding Photography

Rachel & Henry / Paschoe House

Paschoe House Wedding

The brilliant Paschoe House Wedding of Rachel and Henry set in the stunning Devon countryside in May 2018.

To be the first photographer to shoot a wedding at a new venue definitely feels like an honour. However, I’m equally grateful for the huge amount of faith this requires from the couple tasking me to do this. Most importantly it’s an entirely first-time experience there’s no looking at other work for inspiration, no personal experience or knowledge you can draw on from weddings you’ve shot in the past. This really is new ground!

I first met with Rachel and Henry in central London in June 2017 and I instantly knew this was a wedding I had to do. The initial meeting is always a great indicator of a couple and whether your ideas and visions align. The meetings are so important because you learn so much about them, which is particularly necessary because a couple’s wedding day is an extension of their collective ideas and personalities and you want to help realise that.

We started the day with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony, a first for me to document. In a traditional Chinese wedding, the tea ceremony is one of the most significant events. It includes very formal introductions of the bride and groom and develops inter-family respect. It was a fascinating thing for me to observe and photograph.

Paschoe House Wedding Photography

paschoe house wedding photography

The wedding ceremony at Church of the Holy Cross, Crediton was later in the day, allowing me more time to shoot the couple before the actual wedding, something which doesn’t happen so often. We walked down the almost never-ending Paschoe House wedding venue driveway and captured a really beautiful set of pre-wedding images that really do show the close bond between Rachel and Henry.

After a short lunch, the day resumed and I spent some time documenting the final bridal prep stages of make-up, hair and all-importantly, the dress (and my goodness, wow, the dress - you’ll see). A short drive over to Crediton and we were at the majestic Church of the Holy Cross for the wedding ceremony.

Crediton Church has a history which is as long as that of any church in Devon, including Exeter Cathedral. It can be traced continuously in written records back to the early tenth century, and if an eleventh-century copy of a charter of 739AD is accepted as authentic, to almost two centuries earlier.

Rachel and Henry’s Paschoe House wedding was a truly excellent and fun-filled day topped off by a grand reception that was hosted in the magnificent Glass Room and brightened by fireworks later in the evening.

I wish Rachel and Henry all the best in the future. Listening to their stories, theirs is a true love story from the start and it’s clear that their future will be a happy one.
