Tipis are their own kind of room: canvas throws warm light around instead of swallowing it, and the open sides mean the outside never really stops being part of the day.

Ten minutes by the lake as the sun goes will give you more than an hour in the middle of the afternoon. It is the single timing worth defending here.

No shot list and nobody posed. I will tell you roughly when that window falls for your date so it sits in the running order.

How I work a day here

Nothing is posed. I photograph the day as it actually happens, from close enough to hear the joke and far enough not to be in it.

Silent shutter all day and no flash until the dancefloor. Under canvas there is plenty to work with without it.
