Somerset is the easy run east. I would like more weddings in it.
Bath at one end, the Levels and the Quantocks at the other, and a county full of the kind of barn, farm and honey-stone house that suits the way I photograph a day.
The approach
Documentary photography. Nobody gets posed.
I photograph the day as it actually happens, quietly, from close enough to hear the joke and far enough not to be in it. No shot lists, no group-photo marathon, no standing people in a field at golden hour because a website said so.
Nearly a thousand weddings have gone into learning how to do that without anyone noticing me doing it.
Being straight with you
Somerset is new ground for me, and I would rather say so.
I have not built up years of Somerset weddings, and a photographer who claims local knowledge he has not earned is not worth booking. What I bring instead is nearly a thousand weddings of craft: reading a room, absorbing a schedule that has slipped, and knowing which five minutes of the day actually matter.
Where I do not know a venue I go and walk it beforehand, at the hour your ceremony falls, and talk to the coordinator before the day itself.
I photograph the whole day, from the quiet bit in the morning to the dancefloor. Nobody is counting hours, because I do not sell them.
I am based in Newquay, so the run east is short and familiar. Travel is included in the price and I stay locally the night before where it makes sense.

Silent shutter all day. No flash at all until the dancefloor, which is why people stop noticing me by about eleven o’clock.
Two Sony A9 III bodies on me and two A9 II in the bag. Dual cards in everything, backed up on site through the day.
