I keep ending up in Kent. Six weddings in, it still surprises me.
Nine acres of gardens and a lake outside Maidstone, a venue near Canterbury with fairground lettering in the grounds, and a castle barn on the marshes. No two of them alike.
The approach
Documentary photography. Nobody gets posed.
I photograph the day as it actually happens, quietly, from close enough to hear the joke and far enough not to be in it. No shot lists, no group-photo marathon, no standing people in a field at golden hour because a website said so.
Nearly a thousand weddings have gone into learning how to do that without anyone noticing me doing it.
What the county gives you
Three at one venue, and it still looks different every time.
Three of these were at The Orangery in Maidstone — nine acres, a lake, a thatched Lapa in the trees and three separate ceremony settings, which is why three weddings there produced three completely different sets of photographs. Two were at Preston Court near Canterbury, which is unlike anywhere else in the country. One was at a castle barn out on the marshes.
That spread is the reason Kent is worth knowing properly rather than turning up to. Where I know a venue I can tell you what the light does at your ceremony time; where I do not, I walk it beforehand and speak to the coordinator well before the morning of.
I photograph the whole day, from the quiet bit in the morning to the dancefloor. Nobody is counting hours, because I do not sell them.
I am based in Newquay and come up the night before where it makes sense. The drive is never on your invoice.

Silent shutter all day. No flash at all until the dancefloor, which is why people stop noticing me by about eleven o’clock.
Two Sony A9 III bodies on me and two A9 II in the bag. Dual cards in everything, backed up on site through the day.
Included at no extra charge when the venue and the rules allow it. I check before the day, so nothing is promised that cannot be flown.
