The approach
Documentary photography, on ground I already know.
I do not pose people. I photograph the day as it actually happens, quietly, from close enough to hear the joke and far enough not to be in it. That part is the same wherever I work.
What Essex adds is the knowing. I spent fifteen years working this county before I moved back to Cornwall, and almost every kind of wedding venue it has — the timber barns, the Georgian houses, the estate marquees, the tipis in a water meadow — I have photographed several times over.
What the years buy
Local knowledge you cannot fake in a site visit.
A photographer who has worked your venue eight times knows where the light lands in the barn at half past six in September and not a minute before, which corner of the garden the wind ruins, and how long it really takes to move a hundred and twenty guests from the ceremony to the drinks.
That is not sentiment. It is the difference between someone who is ready for the good five minutes and someone who is still finding the room. It is also why registrars and vicars here tend to know my face, and why I rarely have to ask anyone where anything is.

I photograph the whole day, from the quiet bit in the morning to the dancefloor. Nobody is counting hours, because I do not sell them.
Cornwall is where I sleep now, not where I work. I come up the night before where it makes sense, and the drive is never on your invoice.
