What a Villiers Barn wedding photographer is working with
Two rooms, and they could not be less alike. The ceremony space is white and bright with trusses overhead, so an afternoon ceremony needs nothing from me — no flash, no window-wrangling, just daylight doing the work.
The barn next door is the other half of the day. Once the sun goes it is beams, festoon and warm light, which is a far kinder room to photograph than most barns and the reason the evening pictures here look like they do.
Outside there is the brick house, a long gravel drive and open field beyond it. I am a recommended supplier here, which means the team know me and I am not working out the layout on your wedding morning.
The venue quietly does half the work. The ceremony room needs no help at all, and the barn holds its light late.
The field, and the ten minutes worth protecting
At the end of the drive there is open field, and that is where the portraits happen — ten minutes as the light drops, no shot list, nobody posed.
It is close enough that stepping out costs your guests nothing at all. I will tell you roughly when that window falls for your date so it sits in the running order rather than being squeezed in around the speeches.

How I work a day here
Nothing is posed. I photograph the day as it actually happens, from close enough to hear the joke and far enough not to be in it.
Silent shutter all day and no flash at all until the dancefloor, so the ceremony and the speeches stay undisturbed.
Ten minutes in the field. That is the whole portrait session.
She had just walked in. The first thing she did was wipe the tear off him — and that is the whole argument for not directing anybody.
