Seven Cambridgeshire weddings so far. I would like it to become a habit.
Manor houses out towards Newmarket, gardens that do all the work in summer, and a county I have photographed more than most people realise.
The approach
Documentary photography. Nobody gets posed.
I photograph the day as it actually happens, quietly, from close enough to hear the joke and far enough not to be in it. No shot lists, no group-photo marathon, no standing people in a field at golden hour because a website said so.
Nearly a thousand weddings have gone into learning how to do that without anyone noticing me doing it.
What the years buy
Seven weddings here, and most of them at two addresses.
Five of my Cambridgeshire weddings have been at Swynford Manor, which is enough to know the site properly — where the trees break the light in the afternoon, and how long the walk to the lawn really takes. I am also a recommended supplier at Chippenham Park, where the gardens give you somewhere new to stand every hour of the day.
That is depth in two places rather than a passing knowledge of twenty, and I would rather tell you which it is. Where I do not know a venue I go and walk it beforehand, at the hour your ceremony falls, and speak to the coordinator well before the morning of.
I photograph the whole day, from the quiet bit in the morning to the dancefloor. Nobody is counting hours, because I do not sell them.
I am based in Newquay and come up the night before where it makes sense. The drive is never on your invoice.
Over a hundred edited images in your inbox the day after. The full gallery, 800 or more, within sixteen weeks.
Silent shutter all day. No flash at all until the dancefloor, which is why people stop noticing me by about eleven o’clock.
Two Sony A9 III bodies on me and two A9 II in the bag. Dual cards in everything, backed up on site through the day.
Included at no extra charge when the venue and the rules allow it. I check before the day, so nothing is promised that cannot be flown.
