A Swynford Manor wedding in early September, and one of those days where the energy never dipped: Ashley in a white tuxedo, Millie glowing, and their little man in aviators owning every room he entered. The ceremony ran outdoors under a wall of white flowers, and the moment the registrar finished, the whole place erupted.
Swynford Manor at a glance
Swynford Manor is an exclusive-use manor house on London Road in Six Mile Bottom, just outside Newmarket and about 15 minutes from Cambridge. It is licensed for ceremonies indoors and outdoors, and holds up to 150 guests in the daytime and 220 in the evening. There are 12 guest bedrooms plus a honeymoon suite, so close family can stay where they celebrate. The house sits in seven acres of lawns and mature trees, an in-house kitchen cooks everything on site, and it was once the home of Lord Byron’s sister.
I’m a recommended supplier at Swynford Manor, and September here is a cheat code — Tudor gables, box hedges, and a lawn that turns to gold about an hour before sunset. I photographed the day documentary-style from prep to dancefloor: no shot lists, no posing, just the day as it happened.
A Swynford Manor wedding, prep to party
Speeches came with a supporting cast — including one very small speaker with very big delivery — followed by a doughnut tower, golden hour across the lawns, and a first dance under the lights that turned into a full dancefloor inside one song. Photographing a Swynford Manor wedding
I’m a recommended supplier at Swynford Manor, and Millie and Ashley’s day shows why I love it in September. Their ceremony ran outdoors under a wall of white flowers, the family groups went quickly on the terrace, and about an hour before sunset the lawns turned gold for their portraits, with the Tudor gables and box hedges behind them. Inside, the speeches and first dance filled the room, and the dancefloor was full inside one song.
