Devon is the county I drive through most. I would like to photograph more of it.
I moved home to Cornwall this year after fifteen years photographing weddings in the South East. Devon sits between the two, and I would like a lot more of my work to happen in it.
The approach
Documentary photography. Nobody gets posed.
I photograph the day as it actually happens, quietly, from close enough to hear the joke and far enough not to be in it. No shot lists, no group-photo marathon, no standing people in a field at golden hour because a website said so.
Nearly a thousand weddings have gone into learning how to do that without anyone noticing me doing it.
Being straight with you
I am not going to pretend I know every Devon venue.
I am new here, and a photographer who claims fifteen years of local knowledge in a county he moved to this year is not worth believing. What I do have is the craft, which travels: nearly a thousand weddings of reading a room, a schedule and a family.
Where I do not know a venue I go and walk it beforehand, at the time of day your ceremony falls, and I talk to the coordinator before the morning of. That is the part most people skip.
I photograph the whole day, from the quiet bit in the morning to the dancefloor. Nobody is counting hours, because I do not sell them.
I am based in Newquay, so the run east is short and familiar. Travel is included in the price and I stay locally the night before where it makes sense.

Silent shutter all day. No flash at all until the dancefloor, which is why people stop noticing me by about eleven o’clock.
Two Sony A9 III bodies on me and two A9 II in the bag. Dual cards in everything, backed up on site through the day.
Included at no extra charge when the venue and the rules allow it. I check before the day, so nothing is promised that cannot be flown.
