What a Tunnels Beaches wedding photographer is working with

Tunnels Beaches in Ilfracombe is reached through tunnels hand-carved through the cliff, which open out onto private beaches on the North Devon coast. Your guests walk out of the tunnel and straight into the view.

Ceremonies are licensed in a slate-roofed iroko gazebo right above the sea, or inside the contemporary venue building if the weather turns. It takes up to 150 guests in the day and 200 in the evening, and there are several places to stay on site at the main entrance.

Out of the tunnel, onto the sand, and the whole coast in front of you.

Photographing a Tunnels Beaches wedding

A beach wedding is all about the light and the tide. The gazebo faces the sea, so ceremony photos have the water behind you, and afterwards we can walk down onto the sand for ten minutes while your guests have a drink.

The cliffs, rock and open water give you a completely different feel to a country house wedding: big skies, wind in the veil and a lot of movement. I keep it relaxed and let it happen.

How I photograph a Tunnels Beaches wedding

Tunnels Beaches is reached through tunnels carved in the cliff, and every guest walks out onto the beach the same way. A Tunnels Beaches wedding photographer who knows that moment will be waiting for it.

As your Tunnels Beaches wedding photographer I time portraits with the tide and the evening light along the coast, and photograph the ceremony so the sea is behind you.

Planning your Tunnels Beaches wedding photography

Check the tide times for your date as soon as you book, and plan portraits for the last hour before sunset if you can. The evening light along this stretch of coast is beautiful.

Bring flat shoes for the sand and a warm layer for later. There is more on Devon weddings on my Devon wedding photographer page.

Straight answers

How many guests can Tunnels Beaches take?

Up to 150 in the day and up to 200 in the evening.

What if it rains at Tunnels Beaches?

Ceremonies can move inside the venue building, and rain or wind on the coast often makes for the most dramatic photos anyway.

How much is a Tunnels Beaches wedding photographer?

£2,000, and that is it. Coverage is unlimited, with 800+ edited images, next-morning previews, drone where allowed and a gallery for family and friends. UK travel is included, so there is no travel charge for Devon.

Do we have to pose?

No. Documentary first, but not rigid: family group photos from your list, a few short portrait walks, and as much or as little posing as you want.
