What a Shilstone wedding photographer is working with

Shilstone near Modbury is a Georgian house on a 500-acre estate in the South Devon countryside, hired exclusively for weddings.

Ceremonies take up to 135 guests, and receptions are held in a Mughal-style marquee inside a 17th-century walled garden for up to 200 seated. Guests can stay in converted barns and shepherd’s huts on the estate.

Photographing a Shilstone wedding

The walled garden is sheltered and full of colour, which is lovely for drinks and candid photos of guests. Inside the marquee the light is soft and even.

Across the estate there are big views, woodland and quiet corners, so portraits can feel completely private.

How I photograph a Shilstone wedding

Shilstone’s reception happens in a Mughal-style marquee inside a 17th-century walled garden, which gives a Shilstone wedding photographer a warm, colourful setting that changes as the evening lights come up.

As your Shilstone wedding photographer I use the estate’s views and woodland for portraits, and with guests staying in the barns and shepherd’s huts, the morning after is often worth photographing too.

Planning your Shilstone wedding photography

Keep twenty minutes free before sunset for the estate. With guests staying in the barns, the morning after is a lovely time for a few relaxed photos too.
