What a Powderham Castle wedding photographer is working with

Powderham Castle sits beside the Exe estuary just outside Exeter, with a deer park running down to the water. It has four licensed spaces for ceremonies, from the state rooms to the grounds.

The Music Room, with its domed ceiling from 1792, takes 120 for a ceremony or dinner. The State Dining Room has a minstrels’ gallery, the Libraries look out over the deer park, and the Belvedere Tower stands above the river.

Photographing a Powderham Castle wedding

The state rooms are grand but warm, and the big windows in the Libraries are wonderful for natural light. I keep out of the way during the ceremony and work quietly around the room.

Outside, the deer park, the rose terrace and the views over the Exe give you beautiful, varied portraits without long walks.

How I photograph a Powderham Castle wedding

Powderham Castle has some of the grandest rooms in Devon, from the domed Music Room to the State Dining Room with its minstrels’ gallery. A Powderham Castle wedding photographer should treat them gently: no harsh flash, just the window light and the candles.

As your Powderham Castle wedding photographer I take you out to the rose terrace and the deer park for portraits, with the Exe estuary in the distance.

Planning your Powderham Castle wedding photography

Ask the castle about timings for the grounds and the Belvedere if you want photos there. Keep twenty minutes free before sunset for the parkland.

Straight answers

How many guests can Powderham Castle take?

Up to 140 for a ceremony and 170 for dinner, depending on the room.

Where can you get married at Powderham?

In the Music Room, the State Dining Room, the Libraries, or at the Belvedere Tower.

How much is a Powderham Castle wedding photographer?

It is £2,000 for the whole day, with nothing added on: no hour limits, at least 800 edited photos, a first set of 100+ the next morning, drone shots where the venue allows and an online gallery to share. UK travel is included, so there is no travel charge for Devon.

We hate having our photo taken. Is that a problem?

Not at all, you are in good company: most of my couples feel the same. I give a little direction when it helps and let everything else happen naturally.
