The beautiful winter Swynford Manor Wedding of Angela and Jamie, set in the stunning surroundings of the Swynford Manor Wedding Venue in the Cambridgeshire countryside near Newmarket.

Swynford Manor at a glance

Swynford Manor is an exclusive-use wedding venue at Six Mile Bottom in Cambridgeshire, just outside Newmarket and around 15 minutes from Cambridge. Rooms include the Study and the Garden Room, and the house is licensed for indoor and outdoor ceremonies. It holds 150 guests during the day and 220 in the evening, with seven acres of grounds outside. You can stay on site in the honeymoon suite, and there are 12 guest bedrooms for family and friends. Once the home of Lord Byron’s sister, it now has an in-house kitchen cooking every menu fresh.

The venue’s breathtaking surroundings and exquisite interiors make it the perfect place to host a winter wedding, and in November 2018, I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful wedding at Swynford Manor.

The couple, Anglea and James, were looking for a warm and cosy atmosphere, yet a classic, sleek black tie event for their wedding day and Swynford Manor was the perfect fit.

My normal course of action is to meet with clients a couple times in the build-up to a wedding, once during the initial consultation and usually a couple weeks ahead of the big day. In relative terms, this was a late booking and we didn’t really have the time to get a meeting in place. I’d only spoken with Angela and Jamie over the phone on a couple occasions but instantly knew they had it all covered.

A black tie and ball gown wedding with Basil cocktails, fighting gladiator pugil sticks and one hell of a dancefloor, how could this Swynford Manor wedding not be fun?

Boasting a heady combination of romance and glamour, Swynford Manor is a delightfully different, exclusive use wedding venue in Cambridgeshire.

Situated within easy reach of the city of Cambridge and the market town of Newmarket, this classic country house wedding venue dates back to the early 18th century. Once the home of Lord Byron’s half-sister, Augusta Leigh, the house has a rich history and a very distinctive style.

We started the glorious November day with the ever enjoyable bridal and groom preparation. It’s always an advantage when the couple are getting ready in the same venue as I love being able to quickly move from Bride to Groom to see how their mornings are unfolding. I must thank the videographer for the day, David at Rideout Films, who had recommended me to Angela and James. His work is truly stunning and I had a great time working alongside him again.

A beautiful ceremony followed in the Swynford Manor Study before the guests moved into the breathtaking Garden Room for the wedding breakfast and even festivities.

As the evening progressed, the celebrations continued with the couple’s first dance, followed by an evening of dancing and revelry. The DJ and lighting created a lively and energetic atmosphere, with guests taking to the dancefloor to celebrate the newlyweds.

Overall, the wedding at Swynford Manor was a beautiful and memorable celebration of love, warmth, and elegance. The venue’s luxurious interiors and stunning surroundings provided the perfect backdrop for a winter wedding, while the attentive staff and impeccable service ensured that the couple and their guests had a wonderful and unforgettable day. We also managed to fit in a short outdoor session with the couple and the images are certainly some of my favourite of the year. Thanks once again to David (Rideout) for standing in the tree and shaking the leaves off, greatly appreciated.

I wish Angela and James all the best in the future, they are a great couple who deserve nothing but the best in their future together.

Photographing a Swynford Manor wedding

Angela and James had a black-tie November wedding, and Swynford Manor suited it perfectly. They both got ready at the venue, so I could move quickly between them all morning. The ceremony was in the Study, then guests went through to the Garden Room for the wedding breakfast and the party. We fitted in a short outdoor session among the autumn trees, with leaves falling around them, and those portraits are still some of my favourites.
