Blake Hall sits in 60 acres of gardens, lawns and ancient trees at Bobbingworth, near Ongar, Essex, and has belonged to the Capel Cure family since 1789. It’s exclusive use, with three restored 17th-century barns: the Hay Barn, the Essex Barn and the Saddlery. You can marry inside the Hay Barn or outside under the Saddlery canopy, both licensed. Day numbers go up to 150, with 200 in the evening. Your wedding night in the Stable Cottage is complimentary, and the Old Coach House sleeps seven the night before.

Photographing a Blake Hall wedding

Katie and Simon held both their ceremony and reception in the same restored barn at Blake Hall, with its exposed beams and warm feel. As the sun went down we went out into the gardens for portraits, and the golden light across the grounds was beautiful. Between the barn, the gardens and the countryside around them, there were plenty of different backdrops without going far, and the dancefloor stayed packed all night.
