Preston Court Wedding Photographer

Gardens for the ceremony, a barn strung with festoon for the night, and a set of properly odd corners that turn up in nobody else’s wedding photographs.

What a Preston Court wedding photographer is working with

More than almost anywhere else in Kent. There is the house, the gardens, a barn with long tables and lights, and then the deliberately strange bits — fairground lettering, a decorated tent, corners that exist nowhere else. A day here does not look like a day anywhere else, which is the whole point of booking it.

For a photographer that variety is the gift. Your pictures at two in the afternoon and at nine at night belong to different days, and none of it needs styling from me.

A day here never looks like a day anywhere else. That is rarer, and worth more, than a pretty frontage.

Preston Court wedding venue
The barn, set and empty. I photograph every room before anyone is in it, because it is the only time you will see it like this.

The evening, and why it is worth planning around

Once the festoon comes on the whole site changes. The pictures between about eight and ten are the ones that end up on the wall, and they are the reason to protect ten minutes of your evening rather than spend all of it sitting down.

No flash until the dancefloor, silent shutter all day. In a space lit like this, flash would undo the thing you paid for.

How I work a day here

Nothing is posed. I photograph the day as it actually happens, from close enough to hear the joke and far enough not to be in it.

With this much going on, that matters more than usual: the best frames here are the ones nobody knew were being taken.

A Preston Court wedding photographer’s timeline, hour by hour

Timings move with your ceremony time, but this is the shape of most of the weddings I photograph here. Nothing in it is a rule.

10:00
I arriveBoth sides getting ready, wherever that is. Three hours before a one o’clock ceremony, and never in a rush.
13:00
CeremonyI work the sides and the back, quietly, on silent shutter. No flash, no interruptions.
13:30
ConfettiTwo lines, not a ring. It takes eight seconds and it is worth setting up properly.
13:45
Portraits, slot oneFifteen minutes, no shot list. Then you are back with your guests.
14:30
Drinks and groupsWhatever family groups you actually want, done in one go and not dragged out.
16:00
Wedding breakfastRoom shot before anyone is in it, then the details that matter and the faces during them.
17:30
SpeechesFrom the side, close, with a long lens. The reactions are usually the photographs.
19:30
Golden hourTen more minutes outside when the light drops. The best frames of the day are often here.
20:15
Cake and first danceThen the floor fills and I stop directing anything at all.
22:00
I leaveOnce the dancefloor is properly going. I do not sell hours, so nobody is counting them.

Straight answers

How many weddings have you photographed at Preston Court?

Two that are published, and both are at the bottom of this page.

Indoor or outdoor ceremony?

Outdoors in the gardens if the weather allows. If it does not, the barn is more than good enough that nobody will mind.

When should we do our couple photographs?

Two short slots, and make the second one after the festoon comes on. That is where the best pictures are here.

Do you use flash?

Not until the dancefloor. The lighting at Preston Court is the reason to book it, and flash flattens it.

You are based in Cornwall — is Kent a problem?

No. Travel is included, there is no mileage charge, and I come up the night before where it makes sense.

Real weddings at Preston Court

Two full galleries from my work as a Preston Court wedding photographer, shot as each day happened. No posing, no staging, no repeating things for the camera.

The venue, and booking a Preston Court wedding photographer

Preston Court sits outside Canterbury in east Kent, straightforward from the A2 and close enough to the coast to make a weekend of it.

I photograph one wedding a day and never book two. If your date is free, £500 holds it and the balance is due thirty days before.
