Grantley Hall Wedding Photographer
A late seventeenth-century Palladian house near Ripon, restored as a five-star hotel with 38 acres of gardens. Relaxed, documentary photography, £2,500 all in with travel included.

A note on the photos: I have not photographed a wedding at Grantley Hall yet, so as your Grantley Hall wedding photographer I am showing pictures from other weddings of mine. When I photograph one here, they will be replaced.
What a Grantley Hall wedding photographer is working with
Grantley Hall sits in the countryside just outside Ripon in North Yorkshire. The house was built by Thomas Norton at the end of the seventeenth century in the Palladian style, and his son Fletcher Norton, later Speaker of the House of Commons and the first Lord Grantley, turned it into a proper country house.
It stood empty for years until the Sykes family bought it in 2015 and spent four years restoring it. It opened as a five-star hotel in 2019, and the finish is exactly what you would expect: formal rooms, a Japanese Garden, 38 acres of lawns and water, and a champagne bar for the end of the night.
A grand house that has been restored properly, with gardens to match.

The spaces at Grantley Hall
The Music Room, in the main house, has the original ornate ceilings and plenty of daylight, and seats up to 120 for a ceremony. The Grantley Suite takes up to 150 for the ceremony and the wedding breakfast, with its own terrace looking over the Japanese Garden. The Fountains Wing Atrium is another option when you take the whole wing.
Outside, you can marry on the Front Lawns, the West Lawn or in the Garden Pavilion, or keep it small in the Summer House, which is licensed for up to 20. Drinks usually move to The Orchard, and the party ends in Valeria’s, the 1920s-style champagne and cocktail bar.

The moments between the planned ones.

Evening light is the best of the day.
How I photograph a Grantley Hall wedding
A Grantley Hall wedding photographer has a lot to live up to: the rooms are formal and the gardens are immaculate. I work quietly with the light that is there, keep the flash away until the dancing starts, and let the house do the heavy lifting in the background.
Documentary first, but not rigid: family group photos from your list, three short portrait sessions with gentle direction, and as much or as little posing as you want. Everything else is photographed as it happens.

Golden hour does most of the work.

Small details, kept.
Planning your Grantley Hall wedding photography
Choosing a Grantley Hall wedding photographer comes down to trust: someone who will keep up with a formal house, stay out of the way during the ceremony, and still bring back pictures that feel like your day rather than a hotel brochure. I have photographed nearly a thousand weddings since 2009, many of them at grand country houses, and the approach is the same at every one.
As your Grantley Hall wedding photographer I arrive for the getting ready, stay until the dancefloor in Valeria’s is full, and send over 100 previews the next morning.
Leave fifteen minutes free around sunset for the grounds: the lawns and the water are at their best in low light. Weddings of more than 100 guests take exclusive use of the estate, which means the gardens are yours all day, so there is no rush for group photos.
As your Grantley Hall wedding photographer I travel up and stay nearby the night before, so I am there for the getting ready at no extra cost to you. See how I cover a whole day in Sarah and Daniel’s wedding, or look at more venues I photograph.
