What a Le Talbooth wedding photographer is working with
Le Talbooth, now called Talbooth Restaurant, sits on the banks of the River Stour at Dedham, right on the border between Essex and Suffolk, in the countryside Constable painted. It opened in 1952 and has been one of the best-known restaurants in the region ever since.
For weddings, the River Room restaurant can be hired exclusively, and from April to October the marquee on the upper terrace seats up to around 240 and looks straight out across the river. Talbooth House & Spa, a few minutes away, holds a wedding licence and can be booked alongside it, which makes it easy to keep the whole day in Dedham.

The light at Le Talbooth
The first thing a Le Talbooth wedding photographer notices is the river. The Stour reflects the light back up onto faces, and the riverbank and the terraces give you soft, open light for most of the day.
Inside the River Room and the marquee I work with the daylight and keep the flash away until the dancing starts, so the room still looks like the room in your photographs.
How I photograph a Le Talbooth wedding
Documentary first, but not rigid: family group photos from your list, three short portrait sessions with gentle direction, and as much or as little posing as you want. The rest of the day I am in the background, photographing it as it actually happens.
As your Le Talbooth wedding photographer I keep group photos to around half an hour, usually on the terrace or down by the river, from a list we agree in advance. The three portrait slots are about fifteen minutes each: after the ceremony, before dinner and in the evening light.

Planning your Le Talbooth wedding day
Le Talbooth is right in the middle of my home ground for Essex and Suffolk weddings, so I know the lanes, the traffic and the light around Dedham well.
A few things I would suggest to any couple booking a Le Talbooth wedding photographer. Leave a relaxed hour on the terrace and the lawn after the ceremony before anyone is called for photographs. Keep fifteen minutes free by the river in the evening, when the light is lower. And if your ceremony is at Talbooth House, allow time for the short hop down to the river so nothing feels rushed.
