Lusty Glaze Wedding Photographer

A private beach, 133 steps down, and a whole day photographed without anyone being asked to pose. £2,000 all in — my rate for Cornwall and Devon weddings.

£2,000 in Cornwall, and I’ll tell you exactly why

I have photographed nearly a thousand weddings. I know Lusty Glaze well. Not one of those weddings has been on that beach.

That is the entire reason for the number on the right. I want this venue in my portfolio properly — real weddings, shot across different tides, different light and whatever the Atlantic decides to do that day. Not one borrowed frame from a styled shoot.

So for Cornwall and Devon weddings my price is £2,000, rather than the £2,500 I charge elsewhere in the UK. I am building a new Cornish portfolio as a Cornwall wedding photographer, and I want recent work from this beach, which is the whole reason — I would rather tell you that than dress it up as an offer. Nothing is taken out to pay for it. The Lusty Glaze wedding photographer you book at £2,000 is the same one, shooting the same day, delivering the same gallery.

A beach is the easiest place in the world to stop performing

Something happens to people when they take their shoes off. Shoulders drop. Guests who spent the morning worrying about the hat stop worrying about the hat. Children stop being on best behaviour and start being children. Everybody looks out at the water at some point and forgets there is a camera anywhere near them.

That is gold to me, because unposed is not a style I picked to sound different — it is the only way I work. I do not run a photoshoot in the middle of your wedding. I do not stand your family in rows unless you have specifically asked me to. I move around the edges, quietly, and photograph what is actually happening.

Most venues need coaxing before people relax. Lusty Glaze does it for you, somewhere around step ninety.

By the time your guests reach the sand, Newquay has gone. No traffic, no passers-by, no other wedding in the next field. Cliffs on three sides and the Atlantic on the fourth. It is one of the very few UK venues where the location does half the emotional work before anyone has said a word.

What the light does to a Lusty Glaze wedding photographer

A cove flanked by high cliffs behaves nothing like a walled garden in Surrey. Early in the day the cliff throws deep shade across half the beach while the sand and the water bounce light straight back up — which is flattering, and which most cameras get wrong if you leave them to it. Late in the day the sun drops out over the sea and the whole cove goes warm and low and long-shadowed for about forty minutes.

That forty minutes is the single best hour of the day at a venue like this, and it is the reason I plan the day backwards from sunset rather than forwards from the ceremony. Any Lusty Glaze wedding photographer worth booking should be doing the same thing.

How I would shoot your day as your Lusty Glaze wedding photographer

I usually start around three hours before the ceremony and photograph both of you getting ready, wherever you are. I do not stop at the first dance either — I stay until the story is finished, which is normally somewhere around 10pm when the dancefloor has properly gone.

Between those two points, the only time I will ask for you is in three short blocks of fifteen minutes.

Three slots. Fifteen minutes each. That is all.

The first is straight after the ceremony, while everyone else is moving towards drinks — you will not be missed. The second is before dinner is called. The third is at sunset, which on this beach is the one worth guarding in the timeline.

Forty-five minutes in total, split so it never feels like you have been removed from your own party. Compare that to the ninety-minute couple shoot a lot of photographers still build into the day, usually at exactly the moment the canapés come out.

Group shots, if you want them, take twenty to thirty minutes and I will do them properly and quickly. Plenty of couples here skip them entirely and let me photograph everyone as they actually are — which, on a beach, is barefoot with a drink.

The tide decides more than you would think

Lusty Glaze is a tidal cove. At low water you have a great sweep of flat wet sand that mirrors the sky and gives you room to put people at a distance. At high water the beach narrows considerably and the interesting pictures move up towards the cliff, the huts and the deck.

Neither is worse. They just want different photographs, and it is worth knowing which one you are getting. I check the tide tables for your date as soon as you book, and if sunset and low water happen to line up I will tell you, because that is the version of the day I would build a timeline around. It is the sort of thing you want your Lusty Glaze wedding photographer to have thought about months before you do.

Straight answers

You have not shot at Lusty Glaze before. Should that worry me?

It is a fair question for any couple choosing a Lusty Glaze wedding photographer, and it is why the price is what it is. Two things though. I know that beach well and have walked it in every light and every tide there is, so I am not learning the place on your wedding day. And nearly a thousand weddings buys composure rather than a map — barns, cathedrals, marquees, cliffs and hillsides in Provence. I have never had a venue I could not read inside the first hour.

What about the 133 steps?

They are the thing every couple asks about, and in practice they are part of the arrival rather than a problem. Lusty Glaze runs transport down for anyone who needs it — ask the wedding team. From my side it means carrying less kit and being deliberate about what I take down, which I plan for rather than improvise on the day.

It is Cornwall. What if it rains?

Then we get a completely different set of photographs and I would not be even slightly bothered. Some of the best frames I have ever taken were in weather nobody wanted. The venue has an indoor space and the team are practised at turning it around quickly, so nothing gets cancelled — it just moves.

Do we have to pose?

No. Some people love the camera and some quietly dread it, and both are completely normal. If posing is not for you, the three fifteen-minute slots run as a walk and a chat — you two, talking to each other, me at a distance with a long lens. You will not be arranged. Most couples tell me afterwards it was the only calm bit of the day.

Is there a travel or accommodation charge on top?

No, and at this venue there is nothing to charge for — I am based in Cornwall. No mileage, no hotel, no risk of me being stuck on the A30 on your wedding morning. Travel anywhere else in the UK is included in the price too.

When do we get the photographs?

Over 100 previews the next day. The full gallery of 800 or more is with you within 16 weeks at the latest, and usually a good deal sooner — winter weddings fastest of all.

How do we hold the date?

A £500 retainer, by card or bank transfer, and a short contract you can read in five minutes. The remaining £1,500 is due 30 days before the wedding. No monthly plan, no admin fee, no card surcharge.

Is £2,000 a limited offer?

No. £2,000 all in is my price for every wedding in Cornwall and Devon. Elsewhere in the UK it is £2,500. And if you already have a quote from me, I will honour it — I do not move a price once it has been given.

The Lusty Glaze wedding photographer you would actually be booking

Matt Wing. Based in Cornwall, knows this beach well, and working across the south of England and abroad. Nearly a thousand weddings by the end of 2026. Every wedding is shot by me — I do not send an associate and I do not outsource the editing.

There are 174 five-star reviews on Google, and the line that comes up most often is some version of we barely realised he was there. That is the whole job, really. You can read all of them here, see recent weddings in the portfolio, or look further afield on the destination page.

Lusty Glaze itself is a family-run private beach in Newquay, licensed for ceremonies right down to the water and one of very few beaches in the UK you can hire exclusively. Their own wedding pages are here if you are still choosing a venue.
