Oakley Court Wedding Photographer
A Victorian Gothic mansion from 1859 on the banks of the Thames near Windsor, with turrets, red brick and 33 acres of grounds. £2,500 all in.

What an Oakley Court wedding photographer is working with
Oakley Court stands on the banks of the Thames at Water Oakley, just outside Windsor. It was built in 1859 in the Victorian Gothic style, all red brick, turrets and towers, and you may recognise it from The Rocky Horror Picture Show and a string of old horror films.
It is a country house hotel now, with 33 acres of landscaped grounds running down to the river. The Great Hall is a grand setting for ceremonies of up to around 100 guests, the Windsor Suite holds up to around 160 for a ceremony and dinner, and the Garden Room is a lighter, more modern space for receptions.
Turrets, a river and a lawn made for photographs.

The light at Oakley Court
The first thing an Oakley Court wedding photographer notices is the house itself. The red brick glows in low evening light, and the lawns running down to the Thames give you open, soft light for groups and portraits.
Inside, the Great Hall is darker and grander, and I work with the window light and keep the flash away until the dancing starts, so the room still looks like the room.

Along the Thames in the evening.

Golden hour under the trees.
How I photograph an Oakley Court wedding
Documentary first, but not rigid: family group photos from your list, three short portrait sessions with gentle direction, and as much or as little posing as you want. The rest of the day I am in the background, photographing it as it actually happens.
As your Oakley Court wedding photographer I keep group photos to around half an hour, usually on the lawn with the house behind you, from a list we agree in advance. The three portrait slots are about fifteen minutes each: after the ceremony, before dinner and in the evening light.
I have photographed a wedding at Oakley Court, so I know the house, the lawns and the riverbank.

On the steps at the back of the house.

Wind off the river.

The last of the light on the drive.
Planning your Oakley Court wedding day
Because Oakley Court is a hotel on the Thames, most guests can stay, and the riverbank gives the whole day a relaxed, slow feel.
A few things I would suggest to any couple booking an Oakley Court wedding photographer. Keep fifteen minutes free by the river in the evening, when the light is low and the house glows behind you. Leave a relaxed hour on the lawn after the ceremony before anyone is called for photographs. And if you want a photograph in the Great Hall, do it before the room fills up.
Everything else we talk through properly a few weeks before, when I help you with the timeline.

The ceremony room, set and waiting.

Rings.

“At no point did we feel like we were at a photoshoot, but somehow he produced pictures as if we were.”
