Hengrave gives you scale. The front of the house takes a group of any size without anyone disappearing, and the grounds run far enough back that you can photograph the whole thing from a distance and still be five minutes from the bar.
Inside, it is Tudor in the proper sense — stone, glass and height — which means light comes from above rather than straight at you, and it is far kinder than it looks.
Scale is the rarest thing a venue can give a photographer, and Hengrave has more of it than almost anywhere in Suffolk.

The walk away from the house is where the best frames are, and it is close enough that stepping out for ten minutes costs your guests nothing at all.
No shot list and nobody posed. I will tell you roughly when the light falls for your date so it sits in the running order.

How I work a day here
Nothing is posed. I photograph the day as it actually happens, from close enough to hear the joke and far enough not to be in it.
Silent shutter all day and no flash at all until the dancefloor, so a ceremony in a stone room is never interrupted by me.
