Kate & Martin: A Temple Church Wedding

There’s something special about a central London wedding as this was no different but a Temple Church Wedding certainly got my attention!! The setting was stunning, the Temple Church (Knights Templar) which was used in the filming of the famous ‘The Da Vinci Code’. Tucked into a quiet courtyard inside a maze of buildings in the heart of London, The Temple Church is a unique place of worship from the 12th Century that stands as a testament to the Templars who built it.

Temple Church at a glance

Temple Church is a 12th-century church built by the Knights Templar. It stands in a quiet courtyard within the Inner and Middle Temple, between Fleet Street and the Thames. The church doesn’t have its own licence for weddings, so each one needs a Special Licence from the Archbishop of Canterbury. To qualify, the bride or groom must be a member of Inner or Middle Temple, or a member’s child, or a grandchild of a Bencher. Applications are also considered from people employed by Chambers in the Temple or by the Inns, and from regular members of the congregation.

Temple Church Wedding Photography

Kate and Martin had both studied at The Inner Temple as barristers so the location was of great importance to them. Although the weather wasn’t on our side we managed to use our time wisely and get all the shots we wanted. Temple Church Wedding Photography is a real honour and certainly not an opportunity to be missed.

The reception followed at ‘The Fable’ just a few hundred yards up the road for a wonderful wedding breakfast and evening’s celebrations.

Kind words

“Matt was exceptional in every regard. Hopefully, you only get married once, so there are no second chances at getting the right moments captured. Matt caught everything we could have wanted and done so in such an inconspicuous manner that we really had no idea we were being photographed – he just blended in from start to finish.

From being in several locations across London at the crack of dawn to managing tricky lighting conditions with a temperamental March day, he got the lot and every photo was perfectly balanced. His editing was superb, every photo looked natural which is what we had asked for. He was efficient in getting through the formal photographs without taking up too much time and not once did we have to guide or direct him, he just slotted in and was extremely professional. He was also a pleasure to deal with making the experience a lot more reassuring and simple than it could otherwise have been.

Picking a wedding photographer is not an easy job and you can spend a lot of time trawling through websites, but we can say without any hesitation that if you go with Matt you will be relieved and delighted. He is everything that a wedding photographer should be and we would recommend him to everyone”

Photographing a Temple Church wedding

Temple Church sits in a quiet courtyard tucked inside a maze of buildings, which gives you calm space for pictures in the middle of London. Kate and Martin’s day in March 2017 started early, with preparations in several places across London. The weather wasn’t on our side, so we used our time carefully and still got every picture we wanted, including confetti outside the church. Then it was a few hundred yards to The Fable for the wedding breakfast and evening.
