What a Beacon Crag wedding photographer is working with

Beacon Crag sits high on the cliffs just outside Porthleven, a couple of minutes from the harbour. The house was built in 1887 for a local artist, and it stands in five acres of private clifftop grounds with its own path down to the rocks and coves below.

It works for everything from an elopement for two to a marquee wedding on the lawn, and the sea is in almost every view.

Photographing a clifftop wedding

A clifftop venue means big views and changeable weather. I plan the portraits around the light and the wind, and use the path down to the coves for a quiet few minutes away from everyone after the ceremony.

On a clear evening the sun sets over the sea, which is the best fifteen minutes of the day. On a wild one, the drama is just as good in black and white.

How I photograph a Beacon Crag wedding

Beacon Crag sits right on the cliff at Porthleven, which means wind, big skies and a lot of light coming off the sea. A Beacon Crag wedding photographer here has to be quick on their feet when the weather changes, and I like it that way.

As your Beacon Crag wedding photographer I use the terraced garden and the paths down towards the coves for portraits, and I watch the harbour in the evening: Porthleven at dusk is worth a short walk.

Planning your Beacon Crag wedding photography

Put the ceremony so that golden hour lands after the speeches, and keep twenty minutes free for the path down to the sea. Bring a warm layer for portraits: the cliffs are always a little breezier than the lawn.

Straight answers

Is Beacon Crag good for an elopement?

Yes. It offers elopements and intimate weddings as well as marquee celebrations, and the private path to the coves is perfect for a quiet walk after the ceremony.

What if it is windy?

It often is on the cliffs. We shelter for some photos, embrace the wind for others, and veils look amazing in it.

How much is a Beacon Crag wedding photographer?

£2,000, and that is it. Coverage is unlimited, with 800+ edited images, next-morning previews, drone where allowed and a gallery for family and friends. I am based in Cornwall, so there is no travel charge.

Do we have to pose?

No. Documentary first, but not rigid: family group photos from your list, a few short portrait walks, and as much or as little posing as you want.
