What a Pengersick Castle wedding photographer is working with
Pengersick Castle stands between Germoe and Praa Sands on the south coast of west Cornwall. It is a fortified Tudor manor built in the early 16th century, Grade I listed, with stone mullion windows, huge beams, ornate fireplaces and stories of shipwrecks and smuggling.
It is an intimate venue, licensed for small ceremonies with receptions of around 40, set in five acres of private gardens. Praa Sands, one of the best beaches in west Cornwall, is a couple of minutes away.

Photographing inside and around the castle
Inside, the castle is dark, old and full of character, so I work with the window light and let the stone and timber do the talking. The gardens give you space and softer light for portraits and groups.
Because the venue is small, the day stays relaxed and close, and many couples take a short trip down to Praa Sands for portraits by the sea before dinner.

How I photograph a Pengersick Castle wedding
Pengersick Castle is a Tudor tower with thick walls and small windows, so the Pengersick Castle wedding photographer you book needs to be happy working with low, directional light rather than flooding the rooms with flash. Inside, I let the stone and the windows do the work.
As your Pengersick Castle wedding photographer I keep an eye on the tide at Praa Sands, a few minutes away, in case you want ten minutes on the beach before dinner. With around forty guests the whole day stays close, which suits documentary photographs.

Check sunset and the tide if you want beach portraits at Praa Sands: late in the day, with the tide out, the sand is wide and the light is low. Leave twenty minutes for it.

Hardly any. There is a list of family groups, which I keep quick, and a few minutes of portraits with gentle prompts. Everything else is unposed.
