Forty-eight weddings here. A manor house in mature Cambridgeshire grounds, with old trees, an outdoor ceremony lawn and an evening that photographs as well as the afternoon.

The trees are the thing. They are old and properly spaced, which means shade where you want it in the middle of the day and long broken light across the lawn in the evening.
The outdoor ceremony space uses that directly, and it is one of the few in the region that works just as well at three in the afternoon as at six.
Mature trees are the cheapest lighting rig in the business, and Swynford has more of them than most.
The grounds, and the twenty minutes worth protecting
Ten minutes on the lawn late in the day will give you more than an hour anywhere else on the site.
I will tell you roughly when that window falls for your date so it can sit in the running order rather than being squeezed in around the speeches.
Out of the ceremony, and nobody arranged that.

How I work a day here
Nothing is posed. I photograph the day as it happens and stay out of the way while I do it.
Silent shutter all day and no flash until the dancefloor.
Nobody was asked to stand anywhere.
Once the floor fills, I stop directing anything at all.
